First Friday Night: FAQs

First Friday Nights with Kids Cook! isn’t new, but it still might be new for you. So we’ve compiled a list of answers to some of the more frequently asked questions about the event - including what it costs, what to expect and when to sign up for the next one!

  • First Friday Night is a monthly event held on the first Friday of each month. It is a 1.5-hour cooking class designed for families to make and eat a meal. During the class, families work together with trained adults to prepare a meal to eat at the end of the night.
These events are run by Kids Cook! staff but made possible thanks to Presbyterian Community Health.

  • Everyone is welcome to attend, but you do have to register first! The class is designed for families to attend, and most cooking skills are appropriate for ages 5 and up to manage.

  • There is no cost to attend a First Friday Night, but you will need to register first. You also don’t have to pay for (or bring) your own food, kitchen tools, etc - it’s all supplied for you!

Because of where the event is held, you may need to pay for parking.

  • First Friday Night events are held on the first Friday of each month - January 6, February 3, March 3, April 7, and May 5. Check back for information on summer dates.

Registration is required for First Friday Nights and the registration for the following month opens the Monday after each class.

  • First Friday Night is held at Encuentro downtown. The address is 907 4th St SW, 87102.

There is a parking lot next to the building, with additional parking on 4th street.

  • The event runs from 5 - 6:30PM and you should expect to be cooking (or eating) the whole time. You will watch a demonstration of how each item should be prepared and will work with your group to fix part of the meal. Kids Cook! stresses teamwork and expects everyone to be involved in some way - even if that’s just washing dishes! When the food is ready and the prep spaces are clean, everyone will sit down and be invited to eat the food. Afterward, you will help clean up and are then free to go home!

  • All of the Kids Cook! recipes will align with the USDA dietary guidelines for Americans. Most of the meals will include grains, dairy, and fruits/vegetables. We do not offer meal alternatives for each event so if you have specific dietary concerns, please contact kidscookevents@kidscook.us to confirm the meal is appropriate for you/your family.

  • Great! We don’t mind questions, but ask that you direct them to kidscookevents@kidscook.us to get the fastest response. You can also message us on Facebook or Instagram, linked below!
